Types of Allergies In Cats

Although humans are usually caused by allergy sufferers pets, our pets, both dogs and cats can also suffer from this ailment.

For cats, the most common allergies that can suffer are allergic to flea saliva, food allergies and atopy or inhaled allergies. Interestingly, there are cats that can also be allergic to human beings, both their perfume or cigarette smoke as the skin flakes or dandruff, which can cause inflammation in the airways of our pets.

In allergy to flea saliva, the animal shows symptoms licking and scratching due to itching constantly, then appear desescamaciones crusts and subsequent dermatitis caused by allergy to that. In this case we go to the vet to relieve itching.

Allergies affecting the airways cause asthma attacks in the animal, during which will cough, sneeze and have trouble breathing. It is therefore important to identify the agent that causes the irritation.

Once the cat has an allergic reaction, it is difficult to prevent it from coming back, but we can try minimizing allergic outbreaks if we follow a set of guidelines, including:

- Conduct a flea control all year round, because if the animal is allergic to flea saliva, with a single bite injuries appear itchy skin that will be difficult to eradicate.

- If food allergy is, we seek to eliminate entirely the food of the diet.

- We may also use medications that decrease the response to allergens, antihistamines, but always under veterinary supervision.
